Birth

Providing inclusive, trauma-informed, compassionate care that centers you within your birth story

Meet Your Birth Team:

Two women sitting on a beige couch, smiling and talking. The woman on the right has short hair, glasses, a red t-shirt, and is holding a plastic bag with snacks. The woman on the left has long dark hair, wearing a white top. There is a green plant, a large window, and a black exercise ball in the background.

“And when I went into labour, Amy was such a deep well of comfort, confidence, and care I was able to draw from in the throes of pain and fear. My partner and I are eternally grateful for her support in the L&D room.”

- Jil L., Ayr

“Grace’s calming presence really helped my fears surrounding the hospital and I believe it was her encouragement, peaceful demeanor, knowledge, and suggestions that allowed me to have my daughter with no medications. She even informed the nurses of why I was making certain decisions and I feel made the whole experience run smoother.

- Gareth M, Elmira

The Process

During Pregnancy

  • Unlimited email, text, or phone support for questions, worries, etc.

  • 3 prenatal meetings during which we will:

    • Discuss how your pregnancy is going and your birth fears

    • Review what to expect from your labour and birth experience, focusing on information not often covered in prenatal education classes

    • Create a birth plan, starting with visualizing how you want to feel during your birth

    • Teach partners natural pain relief techniques and practice coping strategies for labour and birth

    • Teach newborn care basics and all about recovery from birth in our postpartum planning session

    • Brainstorm a postpartum plan to protect against postpartum depression / anxiety

  • Starting when you are 37 weeks gestation, one of our three birth doulas will be on-call for you 24/7

  • As soon as you ask, a doula will come to wherever you are to begin in-person support

  • We provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support for you and your partner throughout your labour

  • You will have access to our care tools including TENS machine, combs, essential oils, etc.

  • We will stay with you 2 - 3 hours after delivery to establish your first feed with baby and help you feel settled in your postpartum room

At your Birth

Postpartum

1 postpartum meeting of 2 hours during which we will:

  • Discuss your birth experience and how the first few days with your baby have been

  • Discuss any feelings of depression or anxiety and recommend strategies for coping with the newborn stress or additional counselling if necessary

  • Answer any questions or concerns you may have relating to breastfeeding/chestfeeding

A breastfeeding demonstration is being witnessed from above with one set of hands holding a baby and another holding a doll and a knit breast.

“Our experience with Amy as our doula was fantastic. Amy was supportive, empathetic, and loving. The prenatal and postpartum sessions were very informative and helped ease our anxiety of the unknown as first time parents. Her support during labour and delivery was incredibly valuable as she made sure that we never felt alone in the process.”
