Cesarean

Planned cesarean, fully supported,  because birth deserves care beyond the medical.

You’re giving birth. You deserve support.

Preparation, guidance, and recovery support for cesarean birth

If you’re planning a cesarean birth, or moving toward one, you might be carrying a lot at once.

Questions.
Uncertainty.
A desire for this to still feel like your day.

What we want you to know is this:

A cesarean birth is still a birth.
And it deserves to be honoured, prepared for, and supported.

At Willow River Doula Collective, we support families through planned and unplanned cesarean births every year, and we see the meaningful difference this support makes for both parents and babies.

This is support that fills the gaps your medical care cannot.

Emotional, educational, and recovery support that is so often missing during cesarean births.

This support starts long before the birth day

One of the biggest misconceptions about cesarean birth is that there’s not as much to prepare for.

In reality, there is so much we can share with you to help you feel ready for this birth.

One of the best things about this package is the prenatal sessions. These visits are where parents often say things finally start to click, where anxiety calms and confidence and excitement increases.

Each Cesarean Support Package includes two prenatal visits with your doula team.

These visits are practical, educational, and deeply supportive.

We cover:

  • What to expect before, during, and after surgery

  • What happens if labour begins before your scheduled date

  • Comfort measures to support you in early labour if that happens

  • Pain management options once the spinal wears off, including how and when to ask for more support

  • Non-pharmaceutical comfort strategies for recovery

  • Your options for a gentle or family-centred cesarean

You’ll leave feeling informed, clear on your options, and much more prepared for the day your baby is born.

Prenatal visit two

postpartum planning and recovery support

The postpartum period after a cesarean deserves just as much planning and intention as the birth itself.

In this visit, we focus on:

  • Infant feeding and sleep

  • Parent feeding and sleep

  • Common challenges after surgery

  • Planning for rest, support, and healing

We help you build a postpartum plan that protects your recovery and

sets realistic expectations, so you’re not figuring it all out in the moment.

support on baby’s arrival day

On the day of your baby’s birth, we are there for you, every step of the way.

Before surgery, we support you by:

  • Helping you settle into the right mental and emotional space

  • Answering last-minute questions

  • Supporting your partner

We hold the space so your baby’s birthing day still feels meaningful and sacred.

Recovery support that everyone deserves

After surgery, when you’re in recovery and postpartum, your doula is there to help make the transition as smooth and supported as possible.

This often includes:

  • Emotional processing of the birth

  • Support with your baby’s first feed

  • Physical comfort and pain support

  • Helping you rest while we care for your baby

  • Keeping the space calm, grounded, and safe

This is where many parents say the support truly changes their experience.

Because every family’s needs are different, in-hospital support is customizable.

Once you’re home

After discharge, one of your doulas will visit you at home for a postpartum visit.

This visit often includes:

  • Infant feeding support

  • Recovery check-ins

  • Nourishment and rest support

  • Space to talk through and process your birth experience

“And when I went into labour, Amy was such a deep well of comfort, confidence, and care I was able to draw from in the throes of pain and fear. My partner and I are eternally grateful for her support in the L&D room.”

- Jil L., Ayr

“Grace’s calming presence really helped my fears surrounding the hospital and I believe it was her encouragement, peaceful demeanor, knowledge, and suggestions that allowed me to have my daughter with no medications. She even informed the nurses of why I was making certain decisions and I feel made the whole experience run smoother.

- Gareth M, Elmira

“Our experience with Amy as our doula was fantastic. Amy was supportive, empathetic, and loving. The prenatal and postpartum sessions were very informative and helped ease our anxiety of the unknown as first time parents. Her support during labour and delivery was incredibly valuable as she made sure that we never felt alone in the process.”
